DAY ACTIVITY CENTRE (DAC)
The Day Activity Centre under the Spastic Children's Association of Singapore (SCAS) was established on February 2006.
Our mission is to draw out the maximum capabilities of our clients and enriching their lives, in our provision of day care for adults with Cerebral Palsy and other associated physical disabilities, including those with multiple disabilities and autism. Due to the nature of their disabilities, these clients are unable to benefit from the sheltered workshop programme.
In the process, we also provide respite care for the caregivers and family members of our DAC clients. This gives the caregivers the opportunity to pursue their personal economic activities or rest, without having to worry about the care of their disabled charge.
Primarily, we focus on the areas of nurturing self-help skills for our clients through a balanced and structured curriculum covering extensive daily living activities and community living skills training. In addition, we also enhance the curriculum with various forms of therapy rehabilitation care, healthy meals and fun recreational activities.
We believe that with a holistic and client-based programme in place, we can help our clients to lead a more independent and meaningful life.
The DAC programme includes:
Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Training
Provide repeated training activities to equip or maintain the clients' ability, to perform simple functional activities, such as feeding, simple household chores and self-grooming.
Community Living Skill (CLS) Training
Provide repeated training activities to equip or maintain the clients' social and orientation skills, to better integrate with the society, such as appropriate social interactions, mobility and IT skills.
Play Therapy
Involve multimedia and physical play activities, to promote better social integration, growth and development of our DAC clients in a fun and meaningful way.
Art Therapy
Using art expression as a safe, fun and gentle way of allowing clients to communicate thoughts, emotions and feelings, promoting self-awareness and developing social skills with increased self-esteem.
